Project and Job Description
The focus of this position is on developing new methods for the grand challenge of realizing safe maneuvers of automated vehicles. A special focus will be on considering uncertainties in the future behavior of other traffic participants as well as uncertainties originating from the object retrieval of environment sensors (e.g. video cameras, LIDAR, RADAR, etc.). Using methods from motion planning in conjunction with formal verification techniques, should ensure safe maneuvers despite the aforementioned uncertainties. The goal is to demonstrate the developed methods on an automated vehicle.
◾Applicants should have an excellent scientific track record in engineering or computer science.
◾Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
◾Good programming skills in at least one programming language, e.g. MATLAB, C/C++, Python.
◾Highly motivated and keen on working in an international and interdisciplinary team
◾Applicants with strong background in the following fields are preferred:
- Motion planning algorithms
- Formal verification
- Control theory, signals and systems
- Software engineering
The applicant will work directly with Prof. Matthias Althoff (http://www6.in.tum.de/en/people/prof-dr-ing-matthias-althoff). The project is partially funded by Ford. Besides excellent skills for conducting innovative science, the candidate should also be talented in implementing research results on a real vehicle and presenting research results within an industrial context. The candidate should also be willing to do a research stay in Dearborn, MI, USA for a couple of months.
